As an FHBPA member, you are eligible to receive 50% of the claiming price (up to a maximum of $15,000) if a horse that you claim has to be destroyed as a result of injury in that race. The horse must be euthanised within 24 hours and a vet certificate of the circumstances must be submitted to have your case considered. Both the owner and trainer must have a membership card on file prior to the race.

When one of our members horses breaks down in the morning during training hours, the FHBPA will pay for the euthanasia (up to $90) and for the disposal of the horse. Calder pays for the disposal for breakdowns in the afternoon. It has always been a tough situation to receive those bills for our owners and we began this service two years ago.
