Gerald “Jerry” Pitrelli, a long serving manager of the His Place Ministries Track Chaplaincy Office at Gulf Stream Race Track and Calder Race Course passed away this past Wednesday, April 8, 2009 after a brief illness. On the last day of the extended Florida legislative session, horsemen and racetracks got relief from the onerous slots tax rate that former Governor Jeb Bush stuck the pari-mutuels with to guarantee their failure with slots which he continually opposed while Governor. By a 31 to 9 vote in the Senate and an 82-35 verdict in the House the state tax on slots was reduced from 50 percent to 35 percent... Full Story
